Mayday! Mayday! Stand Against Racism Reading

The Howland-Green Branch Library will host a poetry reading Saturday, May 1 in conjunction with the national YWCA event “Stand Against Racism.” The prorgram is called “Mayday! – Mayday!”

Iva Brito, a social worker with the state Department of Children and Families and a poet, organized the event. She will read some of her own work, joined by Everett Hoagland, poet laureate emeritus, and current poet laureate of New Bedford John Landry, both world-renowned and widely published poets, and Jose Soler, Director of the Labor Education Center of UMass Dartmouth. There will be an open mic session, discussion, and refreshments.

The reading will take place from 2 – 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 1, at the Howland-Green Library (3 Rodney French Blvd at Cove and Rt. 18). Call 508-991-6212 for more details.
