Message from Tom Daley: Poetry Reading in Cambridge to Benefit Haiti

Dear Friends:

If you’ve been following the terrible news unfolding from Haiti and would like to do something to help, please read this very important message from Kim Triedman about a poetry reading she and Jim Henle are organizing on February 10 at Harvard to benefit the Haiti earthquake-relief related work of Partners in Health (see details and description below). I am honored to have been asked to participate in this effort, and hope you can be there, too. Please pass this on to your friends, networks, Facebook groups, et cetera. If you can make it to the reading, I would recommend that you plan to arrive early, as I would imagine the event will sell out quickly (there are no advance tickets being sold, as far as I know).

There is information at the end of this message (provided by Joan Kimball) about Partners in Health and how to donate if you can’t make the reading.

Hope to see you on February 10.

Tom Daley

Dear Friends:

On February 10 at 7:30 pm, Robert Pinsky, Rosanna Warren, Jorie Graham, and a dozen other Boston-area poets will join together for a collaborative reading to benefit “Partners in Health” and the people of Haiti. It will take place at Longfellow Hall/Harvard, Appian Way, Cambridge, MA. I have been organizing this benefit with Jim Henle from Harvard, and we will be co-chairing this event. As of today, the confirmed readers are:

Robert Pinsky

Jorie Graham

Rosanna Warren

Afaa Michael Weaver

Fred Marchant

Christina Davis

Daniel Tobin

Barbara Helfgott-Hyett

Jean-Dany Joachim

Patrick Sylvain

Wendy Mnookin

Marilene Phipps-Kettlewell

Nadia Herman-Colburn

Kim Stafford

Tom Daley

Jericho Brown

Franny Lindsey

Requested donation will be $10, with all proceeds going to Partners in Health (PIH). Poets’ books will also be on sale, with all proceeds after cost going to PIH. The event is being co-sponsored by the Woodberry Poetry Room at Harvard and Harvard’s Technical and Clerical Workers Union, which is providing much-needed logistical support.

I have to say it’s amazing how responsive people have been – the poets themselves, Harvard, individuals donating time and resources of various sorts. We’ve got people from so many institutions around Boston working on this. It’s going to be an incredible event on so many levels — a true collaboration. Please support us in any way you can!

All best-
Kim Triedman (with Jim Henle)

Information from Joan Kimball:

The funds will go to Partners In Health, Dr. Paul Farmer’s Haiti-based medical institute. (see T. Kidder’s book, Mountains Beyond Mountains).
If you can’t make this reading, you can still give to PIH. Here’s the website for donations:

If you want to mail a check, here’s the postal address: Partners In Health, P. O. Box 845578, Boston, MA 02284-5578.
